Hi! I’ll be at the Fantasy in September. My child has autism, eats only pureed food (needs to be very well blended), drinks almond milk, and requests food at different times. Does anyone have experience with similar situations? Thanks!

Ahoy there, Maydelis! Welcome aboard, planDisney!

I bet you’re getting so excited about your upcoming Disney cruise! It will be here before you know it! Fun Fact, Maydelis: the first time I ever sailed on board the Disney Fantasy was also on a Halloween on the High Seas cruise in September! We fell head over heels with the Disney Fantasy on that trip and sailed aboard it many times after that. I would be happy to answer your question and help you prepare for your upcoming cruise so that your family has an absolutely magical vacation.

First and foremost, I want to reassure you that Disney Cruise Line is always committed to making sure that guests are as happy as can be, as the safety and comfort of all guests are their top priority. I have experienced this commitment firsthand on many occasions, including when traveling with guests with autism spectrum disorder.

Disney Cruise Line tries very hard to accommodate a variety of dietary needs for guests. While never guaranteed and depending on the dietary request, I've personally seen many dietary accommodations met throughout the different dining locations on board.

To request dairy-free milk, such as almond milk, for your child, log into your reservation, either on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App or on the Disney Cruise Line website, and click on “Special Requests”, then “Dietary Requirements”. Here, you can request dairy-free milk. Almond milk is available both at Cabanas, which is the buffet on board, as well as through Room Service.

Disney Cruise Line has a super helpful guide about Information for Guests with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. You’ll find tons of answers here, including an email and phone number to contact Disney Cruise Line Special Services. I highly recommend reaching out to them after making the notation for the dairy-free milk in your reservation to ensure that all notations have been successfully received and to go over any special requests, such as the pureed food.

On Embarkation Day, I also advise speaking with Guest Services and your Dining Team to discuss the dietary accommodations. They can also assist with communicating any dietary requests throughout the day, on each day of your sailing, such as in the Quick-Service locations, during lunchtime at both Disney Island Destinations, through Room Service, or at Cabanas.

During your sailing, if your family needs any assistance or has any questions or concerns that can make your child’s sailing more comfortable, you’re always more than welcome to visit the Guest Services Desk on board.

Maydelis, I hope that I offered guidance for a comfortable and memorable vacation aboard the Disney Fantasy! I’m so excited for your family and wish you all an amazing cruise! Please sail back to planDisney if you have any other questions.
