I'll be in Disney in October with my wife, DS2 and DS4. I know collecting pins is a big thing, but our kids are a little young for the sharp pins. Any suggestions on a more age appropriate idea to collect? It will help keep them busy at meals!!

Hi, Hal!   Ah, the planning of meal time activities!    My kids are 6 and 9 and I still carry around a bag of goodies to restaurants for entertainment!

If you are looking to buy items for collecting, my 6 year old son loves the Disney Racer cars.   They are the size of Matchbox cars and they are each a different "character."    There are dozens to choose from including everything from Mickey Mouse, to Darth Vader, to a Disney Monorail to Kermit the Frog!   They are about $5.00 each (prices subject to change) and fun to collect and play with!  You will find these at most gift shops.   These cars are really fun and a great souvenir.  Plus, they are small enough to carry around and play with at a table.

If you are looking for a low/no cost item, how about picking up a Disney coloring book before leaving home?   Get a coloring book and a box of crayons for lots of entertainment!   Instead of an autograph book, you can ask the characters to sign the cover or pages that your kids have colored.   This will be a fun activity (and you will save on buying an autograph book!)

Another item, a bit more pricey, are Kooky Pens.   They are pens with the crazy rubber hair.   There are a dozen or so characters to pick from (Mickey, Nemo, Woody, and more) and the kids just love to collect these!    (Yep, we have a box full of them in my house right now!)   They are priced around $6.00, but again, prices do change.

Whatever you decide, set a spending limit or things can get a bit out of control!   Keep it simple, easy to carry, and think long term about how and where the items will get used once you get home!   Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Cathy, Ohio

Hi, I'm Cathy from Cleveland. I love to travel, especially in the winter to escape the snow and cold of Ohio! My husband and 2 kids share my enthusiasm for travel, so we enjoy our adventures together whether it is hiking at a National Park, sailing on a Disney Cruise Ship, or going to Walt Disney World which is our home away from home. My husband proposed to me in front of Cinderella Castle and we have not stopped visiting ever since! It's a blast helping guests here at planDisney!
