Hi Mary Pat!
Thanks for coming back to see us, I’m always thrilled to see Guests returning to planDisney with new questions.
Mary Pat, I wish I had a magic mirror to give me all the details about the upcoming expansion to Magic Kingdom. As a family who loves Cars and even has a soft spot in our hearts for those meddlesome villains, we can’t wait to watch these new lands develop in The Most Magical Place on Earth.
At the time I am writing this answer, no official date of closure has been announced. I went back to the
Disney Parks Blog article about the Magic Kingdom announcements made at D23 for any additional details I could find. It was shared that Rivers of America and
Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed into Radiator Springs, which will include two new attractions. The article goes on to say work would be “revving into high gear next year,” and guests will still have time to enjoy the current state of Frontierland. Since your vacation is in the next couple of weeks, I hope you’ll have the opportunity to take a raft to explore Tom Sawyer Island on your upcoming visit.
In the future, there are a few places I recommend looking for news about closures. On the
Hours & Events Calendar, there is a section under each theme park that lists if any attractions are closed. You can also visit the attraction’s page directly, if a closure has been announced it will be listed on the attraction page.
Disney Parks Blog may also share more details about the Magic Kingdom expansion in the future.
I’m sorry I didn’t have more information to share at this time, Mary Pat. I have an upcoming vacation as well and I’m hoping to enjoy some experiences around Walt Disney World Resort before we see the
exciting changes coming to the theme parks. If you have any more questions, you know where to find us at
planDisney!
