I'd like to reserve hoop dee doo at 930pm for the category 1 seating. It sounds so late to eat and can't decide what day on my trip to do this. Have any of you eaten a big meal this late while at Disney? Thanks!

    Liza:

When we went a year ago, our family ate at the 9:30 p.m. show on the dining plan and I came away with mixed feelings (not about the show, just my choice of time)....

It wasn't too hard on the little ones in the group because we live in the central time zone and our bodies were still on it....What frustrated me was Disney's unneeded emphasis on arriving 45 minutes to an hour early when seating was by reservation, and the line for pictures (for purchase later....) wasn't long.  This "down time" ascerbated the children's question of "when will we eat?"  Thankfully, we ate a late lunch that day, so we weren't starving, and we left the park early enough to relax before the show.

If I had it to do over again, I don't think I'd put an emphasis on Category 1 seating vs. an early dinner time. Some of the Category 1 seats seemed TOO close, and I'd rather have gotten to bed earlier.  Thankfully, we were checking out the next day and could sleep in, but I can't imagine if we had wanted to head to the parks early or had stayed at a resort requiring Disney transportation (we stayed at the cabins)....

For our next Hoop Dee Doo Dinner, I'll go for the 7:15 p.m. dinner and then a stroll over to the pier afterwards to cap off the night with Magic Kingdom fireworks.  Second choice: 5 p.m. and afterwards walk to the campfire sing-a-long near The Meadows.

If, after reading this, you still want to go for 9:30 p.m., I'd recommend going on the last day of your trip--like a finale dinner, after visiting a park like Animal Kingdom that closes early or on your first day since you live in the central time zone--but only if you'll promise to relax upon check-in and enjoy your resort before heading over to the show!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
