I'd like to have a character dinner at the Garden Grill in Epcot, but we're not sure which day will be best for us, can I make two reservations and cancel one once we know? Can I make 2 dinner res for the same night and cancel one? Thanks!

    Hi Kelly,

With Advanced Dining Reservations, you really need to be able to nail down ahead of time which parks you plan to be in, what time you want to eat and plan your days around them. Guests used to do what you are suggesting (make 2 reservations) because they weren't sure where they would be. What would happen is they'd often forget to cancel one of their meals. Meanwhile, there would be another family who was desperately wanting to dine with the characters too and all of the reservations were taken. Little did anyone know, they could have eaten there after all. To prevent this type of scenario, Disney recently changed the Advanced Dining Reservations system. The computer program is now designed to prevent guests from double booking reservations on the same night. This is to allow all guests a fair chance to dine with the characters and enjoy some of the fabulous restaurants.

Like you, I like to leave room for spontaneity on my vacations. As tough as it is to plan where you'll be ahead of time, in regards to dining reservations, I believe it's a necessary part of a smooth Disney vacation. What we do is we book our dining (at exactly 180 days in advance). We know from viewing the park calendars which park we'll want to be in based on Fantasmic, Wishes and IllumiNations. We leave the "plan of attack" in the parks open to whim and what the kids want to do. The only thing we really plan is where and when to eat table service meals. I believe you'll find the fact that you have a guaranteed table waiting for you in the air conditioning to be reassuring as you go through you day.

Hope this helps and have a great day,
