I'd like to take advantage of the in-room child-care for my 18 month and 5 year olds at the Contemporary Resort. So I can budget accordingly, how much does this service cost? Is gratuity expected? And, do the providers have a good reputation? Thanks!

    Hi Rebecca:

You can reserve in-room baby sitters through Walt Disney World's preferred childcare provider, Kid's Nite Out. We've used the service and were very pleased with the babysitter we were provided. Kid's Nite Out caregivers are interviewed, screened, and provided with childcare training as well as a Disney Orientation. While chances are that someone out there has had a negative experience, I have yet to hear of anyone displeased with a Kid's Nite Out caregiver. To make sure the service is right for your family, I would encourage you to do research as well as contact Kid's Nite Out and ask them any question, relay any concern, or make any special request. To find out more information or reserve a sitter, you can contact Kid's Nite Out at 1-800-696-8105 or online at kidsniteout.com.

Although rates are subject to change, as of now, rates are $16.00 an hour for one child and $2.50 for each additional child, so the rate for your two children would be $18.50 an hour. There is a four hour minimum plus a $10.00 transportation fee for each reservation. Other things you should know about Kid's Nite Out is that there is a 24 hour cancellation policy and an extra fee applies for holidays as well as for reservations beginning before 6:30 a.m. or after 8:59 p.m.

While gratuity is not expected or required, it is customary for good service. A tip may vary depending on certain variables such as the length of the reservation, attention needs of your children, and the caregiver's demeanor, timeliness, attitude, and communication. I asked a Kid's Nite Out caregiver about her experience with tipping. She confirmed that tipping was common but not required, and it ranged anywhere from $3 to $100, with the average tip being $20.

Enjoy your vacation and your evening out.
