Hi there, Sarah!
Welcome to planDisney! As an adult who frequents Walt Disney World Resort myself, I think your grown-up kids will have a wonderful time in The Most Magical Place on Earth. I'm currently planning a visit with my mother this December and am so excited to make magical memories with her as an adult!
I'm happy to share that your family will be able to spend plenty of time together during your vacation, even if everyone doesn't enjoy the same attractions. Your son is more than welcome to join you in the standby queue for coasters. You'll just need to inform a Cast Member that he does not intend to ride, and he will be escorted to an exit when the remainder of your party is assigned a ride vehicle. Because some of Walt Disney World's newer attractions have interactive queues with visual displays pertaining to the story of the attraction (
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is my current favorite), your son will likely even enjoy the wait. Please keep in mind that if you intend to use
Lightning Lane passes to bypass standby queues, only those who have purchased those passes will be able to join that queue.
I'd also love to suggest some of my favorite attractions and experiences that everyone can enjoy together - even those who aren't looking for an adrenaline rush.
- In Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park: Kilimanjaro Safaris, Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, Maharajah Jungle Trek, Festival of the Lion King, a midday snack at Nomad Lounge, and dinner at Yak & Yeti Restaurant.
- In Disney's Hollywood Studios: Slinky Dog Dash (a moderate coaster), Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, dinner at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, and Fantasmic!
- In EPCOT: Living with the Land, a stroll through the World Showcase, lunch at Space 220 Lounge, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, and dinner at Garden Grill Restaurant.
- In Magic Kingdom Park: Jungle Cruise, Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, a nighttime ride on Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and dinner at Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen.
I hope this information is helpful for you as you continue to plan, Sarah, and that your upcoming family vacation is filled with lifelong memories. If you have any additional questions or are in need of suggestions, feel free to stop back by.
I'm always happy to help!
Thinking Happy Thoughts,
Lizzie
