My husband is a firefighter/paramedic. I was wondering how they choose the people who raise or lower the American Flag at MK? I would love to surprise him.

    Hi Sheila,

How awesome of you to want to surprise your husband. The Flag Retreat Ceremony is a very moving ceremony and I'm always reminded how blessed we are to have men and women who have and are serving our country in the military.

The ceremony takes place at 5 p.m. each day and lasts approximately 20 minutes and is held in Town Square. Be sure you check the Times Guide when you enter the park to confirm the time on your date of visit. They are available at the entrance of the park, Guest Relations & most merchandise locations.

Guests who are interested should check in with Guest Relations in City Hall located in Town Square as you enter the Magic Kingdom. I would suggest arriving as soon as the park opens and go there immediately.  They typically select a military veteran or someone currently serving in the military to participate.  I'm not sure if your husband has a military background or not but its always worth a shot.

Be sure to look for Fire Chief Smokey on Main Street in the Magic Kingdom.  Tell your husband to introduce himself as a fellow firefighter.  He'll be happy to pose for pictures with you.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that this works out!   Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
