My husband and I are wanting to take our 5 year old daughter to Disney for the first time in December. We are thinking about the week after Christmas. How are the crowds and the weather? I have only been during the summer.

Hi Kathryn!  Welcome to the Disney Parks Mom´s Panel.

What a great age to visit Walt Disney World for the first time.  My little Merida also visited Disney for the first time when she was five years old and still remembers many magical experiences we had on that vacation.

December is a unique and special time of the year to visit Walt Disney World, as Christmas decorations are found at all parks and resorts.  Guests are also able to experience unique Christmas special events.  The weather is really comfortable, normally ranging from 50 to 80 degree Celsius, great for touring the parks.  I constantly check the weather forecast so to know what to expect.

Still, the last two weeks of December possibly are the highest season for Walt Disney World.  Parks are as crowded as they can and plenty of planning is needed for a relaxing vacation.  This will be a different Disney vacation - with really long waiting times and a unique festive crowd and ambiance.

I have had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney during the first two weeks of December and these experiences will be cherished for a long time.  During these days the weather, the crowds and the ambiance are perfect for enjoying everything that Disney Parks have to offer.

My family´s favorite Christmas special events are Magic Kingdom´s Mickey´s Very Merry Christmas Party and Epcot´s Candlelight Processional.  Mickey´s Very Merry Christmas Party usually ends the weekend before Christmas.

Happy to help you plan a magical Disney vacation on your daughter first visit.
