My husband and I will be traveling to WDW soon with our 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter. We have reservations at WL, but are considering moving to the Contemporary GW. We will be at MK most of the week. Will this make our trip more convenient?

    Hi Rebecca!

    This is a great question!

Both resorts are Magic Kingdom resorts.  However, you have to take a boat or ride a bus to the Wilderness Lodge with the boat being the fun way to go!  Boats run about every twenty minutes and it's about a 10 minute trip to the lodge.

The Contemporary is about a 5 minute walk from the Magic Kingdom, but the Garden Wing is on the far side of the Contemporary Resort.  Thus it is really more like a 15 minute walk to and from the Contemporary Garden Wing and that really depends on how fast you will be going!  The monorail makes the trip convenient, but to be honest, the monorail is fast in getting you back to the Contemporary, but not so fast in getting you to the Magic Kingdom; that is because when you go to the Magic Kingdom you have to first stop at the Transportation and Ticket Center, then the Polynesian, and finally the Grand Floridian.

Thus I really think it is a wash in terms of convenience to the Magic Kingdom.  However, if you think you want to dine in one of the other Magic Kingdom resorts, such as the Polynesian, then being on the Magic Kingdom monorail line does make all of that a lot easier.  Otherwise, if you are staying at the Wilderness Lodge, you first have to take the boat to the Magic Kingdom and then take the monorail to where you want to go.

However, if it was me, I would stay at the Wilderness Lodge.  It is my personal favorite resort in all of Walt Disney World.  I love its theming and I love taking the boat to and from the Magic Kingdom.  It's a hard decision.  Good luck, and please write back with more questions!
