Hi Shawn,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! While we love watching brave and adventurous people finding independence in our favorite Disney movies, it’s quite another thing thinking about our own loved little ones as “lost boys and girls,” isn’t it?
You and their parents know your grandchildren best, so please be sure to discuss your idea with them. I have one child who is a very reliable rule-follower and one free spirit, and we have done great in the Walt Disney World theme parks. Here are some theme park safety tips:
-Talk to the children about the importance of staying together, and talk about what to do if they get separated from you or each other. Our children know to find the closest attraction and tell to the Cast Member at the queue entrance that they have been separated from their family.
-Make sure both children have your phone number with them. I've seen lots of great ideas, from custom tattoos to attaching a luggage tag with contact information to their belt loop.
-Make sure both children know your full names, and make sure they can describe you, including what you're wearing each day. The more details a child can give the Cast Members, the easier it will be from them to find you.
-If you will be wearing MagicBands, as long as you have entered your contact information in My Disney Experience, a Cast Member can scan the child’s Magic Band and be able to contact you.
Thank you for caring so much and wanting to be prepared. Walt Disney World is
Wild About Safety, and they have many great protocols in place. If you want more information, please talk to any cast member when you arrive; it will be their pleasure to help put your mind at ease so you can enjoy every magical moment with your grandchildren.
Wishing you a magical vacation,
Robyn
