My husband and I are taking my 2 year old daughter to Disney for the first time. What resort would you best recommend?

    Sandy:

"Best" can mean a lot of things, but for the family with a two-year-old, I would think that proximity to your hotel for afternoon naps would make a few resorts rise to the top:

    • The Contemporary: If money is not an issue, this hotel offers proximity to the Magic Kingdom either by a 15-minute ride on the monorail or a 10-minute walk by foot. Some feel the noise in this hotel can be heard in the rooms but nothing that an upper-floor room or a sleep machine wouldn't solve for your daughter. (I've stayed as low as the 6th floor and had no problem with noise.) I would consider splurging on the Magic Kingdom view room if you know you will be in the room early each night for bedtime. If not, the views of the lake are spectacular.
    • Yacht Club: If you want to enjoy a fun pool, consider this sister to the Beach Club that is smaller and closer on foot to Disney's Hollywood Studios and its boat launch. Check out the knee-deep toddler pool with its sandy bottom, perfect for making sand castles with your daughter.
    • Animal Kingdom Lodge: If she loves animals, get a Savannah view here, especially if you think you're going to spend your afternoons in your room. Keep in mind that this hotel is the farthest out, in my opinion, from the parks, so allow yourself more time to get back to your room.
    • All-Star Movies: If your budget is a concern, I recommend requesting a room in the Toy Story or 101 Dalmatians section. She'll be mesmerized at the statues of Disney characters, and you can spend the money you'll save on your room on a Character Meal at Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey's or coming back AGAIN when she's three!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
