My husband and I are taking our three children(ages 10, 6, and 4) on the Disney Dream next May 2012 to the Bahamas. Our 10 year old has a tree nut allergy and we carry EpiPens. Does the ship have a medical facility able to care for him if the worst occurs?

    Hi, Diane!

Congratulations on your cruise next year aboard the Disney Dream -- she is a beautiful and oh-so stylish ship!  I can't wait for you to have your turn to sail!

The health and safety of all guests are of utmost concern to the cast and crew aboard all Disney cruise ships, and each ship has a Health Center on board. If you require medical assistance during your vacation, nurses and doctors at the Health Center are available to assist with your medical needs while you're on board or when the ship is in port. The Health Center is located on Deck 1, Forward and is open from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

In addition, a physician and nurse are on call 24 hours a day to provide basic medical services on every cruise. The physician and nurse are employed by a company independent from Disney Cruise Line. Therefore, you will be charged a fee for services.

As a mom, I encourage you to make note of your child's allergies on your cruise reservation and make sure you remind your servers at dinner.  For the buffets and at the quick-service locations, there is always someone readily available to answer questions about what is in the food served, or they can easily ask a chef to come talk to you. You also may want to make note of the allergies at the Youth Activities Clubs -- and you can do this when you register all your children either on line, at the terminal or on board.

I hope this helps you plan. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
