Hi Kelly,
Thanks for posting your question about
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I have such wonderful memories of this tropical escape because that's where I take my graduating high school seniors each spring for
private surfing lessons. They get the chance to learn how to surf for two hours before the water park opens to the general public. There's something truly magical about being at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park when it is empty (except for a dozen students and a few surfing instructors). If your son is 8 years or older, perhaps he'd be interested in signing up for the experience. Guests who want to participate in this program can call (407) WDW-PLAY, or (407) 939-7529 up to 180 days in advance to reserve their spot in the surfing class. You could attend the lesson with him without paying the surfing fee, if that is your wish. There is a small charge for spectators but the fee includes a delicious, continental breakfast.
As for the general admission hours, unfortunately you would be charged the regular entrance fee to Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park whether or not you planned to swim. Even if you are not an avid swimmer, I'd encourage you to give
Castaway Creek a try. I could ride that peaceful lazy river-style attraction all day long. Or perhaps you'd prefer to just grab a good book and a shady spot to enjoy the park for the day.
Do let us know if you have any additional questions as you plan your upcoming visit to Walt Disney World Resort. We'd be delighted to provide whatever insight you may find useful.
Wishing you many magical memories,
Jill
