My husband and I recently were in Disney and had a chance to look at the option of joining the DVC and my question is is it really worth it, are there disadvantages?

    Susanna:

OK...I'll be the Disney party pooper on this question and keep things real.

When my husband and I looked at it several years ago, two things concerned us: 1) the upfront cost that might be better invested for a return comparable to the savings shared on future vacations and the biggie 2) the yearly maintenance fee required for DVC members paid based on the number of points you buy.

Although DVC members have MANY advantages including larger accommodations, kitchen amenities, deluxe pools, discount on annual park passes, and the ability to purchase a dining discount, these didn't outweigh our initial apprehension.  (However, I must say that the new Bay Lake Towers is awfully tempting....)

My suggestion: ask fellow Disney Moms Anna, Karen and Tanya their opinions on DVC via their bio pages.  All are DVC members (in fact, Tanya's family owns multiple resort points!).

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
