Maria from FL Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

My husband is in the process of getting his passport, so we have uploaded all our family's travel infor—except for his. Do I have to wait for his documents to arrive in order to reserve a time for our cruise check-in?

Ahoy there, Maria! Thank you for sailing our way here at planDisney, and welcome aboard! I'm glad you dropped me a message in a bottle, because you're just a few days away from embarking on a magical adventure! I'm sure you are getting everything ready for embarkation day, but it's always a good idea to double check!

When it comes to Online Check-In, there are some documents that will be asked of you, but depending upon your itinerary, a passport may or may not be one of them! Judging by your arrival date, it looks like you're either on the Disney Dream out of Port Canaveral or the Disney Wonder out of Honolulu - two very different cruises on very different ships, with - you guessed it - very different passport requirements!

If you are on the Hawaiian itinerary, I certainly hope your husband's passport is in your hands at the moment! Since that itinerary ends in Vancouver, Canada, and you'd likely fly back to the US, everyone would need their passports not only for Online Check-In, but for reentry!

Assuming you're on the Bahamian itinerary, the news is much sunnier - for US citizens on "closed loop" cruises (meaning those that begin and end in a US port) the required documentation can be one of the following:

    • Original or copy of their state-issued birth certificate AND Government-issued photo ID - Note: Puerto Rico birth certificates issued prior to 7/1/10 are not acceptable and neither are Hospital-issued birth certificates!
    • Original Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by the Department of State AND Government-issued photo ID
    • Original Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services AND Government-issued photo ID

As long as everyone in your party has at least those documents ready for your in-person check-in at the port, you should be able to go through Online Check-In! In many ways, the Online Check-In portion is meant to save time - but since all parties must select a port arrival time, I'd definitely suggest you perform your check-in as soon as possible to ensure you know what time you'll need to get to the port! And don't forget, as part of the enhanced health and safety protocol, you will also be required to upload your vaccination documentation information to the Safe Passage website!

Details for all required documentation is available in the "Know Before You Go" section of the Disney Cruise Line website if you find yourself running into any issues! Oh, and be sure to print and fill out the Port Arrival Form before you get ready to sail away! In no time you'll be embarking on your Disney Cruise Line vacation and ready to enjoy everything that's included!

I hope that helps clear things up, Maria! I wish you and your crew smooth sailing and an incredible adventure this weekend! Thank you so much for your question, and if you have any other last-minute needs, please sail my way again here at planDisney!

Until then, may your anchor be tight and your compass true!

    Andrew
