My husband and I are planning a trip to WDW for June 2009. We have 3 children, age 6,8,15 and we are leaning towards the Wilderness Resort Cabins. How much distance there is between the cabins and activities/shuttle pick up. Should this be a concern?

Our family has stayed at Fort Wilderness with our own transportation and without it, relying solely on the bus and boat system.

On our first visit, I was cautious like you and requested a loop near the bus stop. However, once we arrived I saw that my request was really unnecessary. The bus system has many bus stops and you don't have to walk farther than 50 yards to get to one (my estimate, not there's, but essentially not even 5 minutes).

Specifically, there is a route with five stops that services the cabins, one with four that services the outer perimeter of the campsites and a route that goes down the middle of the campus that services the Outpost, the Meadows, and the Trading Post and a few points in-between.

Unless you had someone in your party with a mobility disability, I'd go with full confidence. In fact, I'd think your family would enjoy walking together under the shaded pines--even in summer.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
