My husband and I are planning a trip to DW this Dec. We usually just go with the flow and see where the day takes us, so my question is what are some good dining options we have for the end of the day with no reservations on DW property? thanks

    Jennifer:

Although I like to have a dining plan, our family more recently has been enjoying camping at Fort Wilderness and taking a more relaxed approach to some of our vacations.  And as much as I tell myself I'm going to cook dinner at the RV every night, we have found ourselves on more occasions than I'd like to admit saying, "Let's just see if this restaurant has seats and eat out tonight!"

My experience has been that we can usually find walk-up seats at many of the table restaurants in the World Showcase at Epcot much easier than Magic Kingdom or Disney's Hollywood Studios.  Both Tokyo Dining and Marakkesh on recent visits had open tables as did the Rose & Crown.  (We chose Tokyo Dining.)  We've also had good luck at the restaurants at Downtown Disney with Wolfgang Puck and Rainforest Cafe (however, Rainforest Cafe has now begun taking phone reservations, so it may become more difficult).  Friends of ours walked right into T-Rex last month during the busy summer season, but as it gains more exposure and popularity, it may become more difficult.

None of the restaurants we landed are what I would consider Disney restaurant icons (that practically take a 90-day reservation) like Le Cellier, Chef Mickey's, or Cinderella's Royal Table.  But recently, the June 14 blog at www.touringplans.com confirmed some of these restaurants as ones you could get reservations for with short notice.

The easiest way to find out what's available is to simply call Disney dining at 407-939-3463 (yes, you can call for same-day reservations) and tell them where you are and what table service options you have.  Although they're limited on making same-day reservations at Downtown Disney, they have access to the resort and park restaurants!  So keep that phone number handy!

    Wishing y'all a relaxing vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
