Hello there, Joe Anthony! Thanks for cruising to planDisney with your question. Welcome!
I'm so happy to hear that you are planning to set sail onboard the
Disney Magic this coming November. You will have a lovely time during your
Very Merrytime sailing! I'd be happy to share more about how the Key to the World card works.
Once you have checked in at the port and boarded the ship, you will retrieve your Key to the World Card in a sealed envelope outside of your stateroom. You will open the envelope and then touch your key to the designated spot above the handle to your stateroom door. The Key to the World Card works as the key to your stateroom and you will need to keep it with you whenever you are out and about.
Your Key to the World Card is also used as a way to charge any purchases to your onboard account. For example, if you purchase an alcoholic beverage, a specialty coffee beverage, or snacks outside of the
Walt Disney Theatre, you will present your Key to the World Card for your purchase. You can view purchases made to your onboard account at any time using the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. During online check-in (which opens 30 days before your sailing), you will indicate the specifics for which guests are able to charge purchases to the onboard account and set up a credit card for these charges.
When you plan to disembark the ship at a Port of Call, you will need to show your Key to the World Card as you exit the ship. Please also carry a government-issued ID with you whenever you are off of the ship. You will scan your Key to the World Card again as you return to the ship. I travel with children, and while I allow them to keep their cards with them while onboard the ship, I prefer to handle them off of the ship.
Key to the World Cards are also used for the secured programming check in at
Disney's Oceaneer Club and Lab. Children will need to present their card when they enter the space, and adults will need to present their card when picking up children to ensure that they are approved to do so. If older children are appointed self check-out privileges, they will show their card as they leave the youth spaces.
As you can see, Key to the World Cards are used often throughout your Disney Cruise! For this reason, many guests like to wear them on a lanyard around their neck. If you do this, I recommend that you take off lanyards when taking photos. I think the photos look nicer without the lanyards!
I hope this information is helpful for you. My pals and I always hope that you are feeling shipshape and ready to sail. Please cruise our way again if you have any further questions.
Happy Sailing,
Adrianna
