Hi Karan,
Welcome to planDisney! I'm so glad you stopped in with your question because I think my own recent experience will put your mind at ease. Last fall, I took a spill and broke both my legs, which left me unable to stand for several months.
Thanks to a rental ECV, I was still able to enjoy three previously scheduled weekend vacations to
Walt Disney World. The transportation, restaurants, the parks and the resorts are incredibly accessible and accommodating. If you are using the bus transportation, the driver will help you maneuver your ECV up a ramp and into position, securing you and the ECV with special seat belts. You don't have to stand or transfer to a seat unless you want to.
You also can ride an ECV directly into a monorail car or a
Disney Skyliner gondola. (I didn't use any of the water transportation but I believe at least some of the boats also are accessible by ECV.)
If your husband can walk short distances, he will be able to leave the ECV at the entrance to a restaurant; in my case, I needed to stay seated on the ECV to eat or to get close enough to the table to transfer into a chair.
Whether we were on Disney transportation, at a restaurant, in a park, at
Disney Springs or at our resorts, never did I feel uncomfortable or as if I was inconveniencing other guests or cast members as cast members helped make my vacation as accessible as possible.
ScooterBug, which is the
Disney Featured Provider of wheelchairs, strollers and ECVs, will deliver the ECV to your Walt Disney World resort and pick it up when you are finished. You do not have to be present. I would choose a delivery time several hours before your arrival just to be sure there are no delivery delays.
On each of my visits, I chose the Resort model. It was comfortable and nimble, much easier to navigate than the ECV I rented directly at the theme park on one occasion.
I hope that helps, Karan. Please let us know if you have any other questions, especially if you need ideas for some special anniversary dining. My husband and I have celebrated many anniversaries at Walt Disney World, including both our 25th and our 30th. My fellow panelists and I are always eager to offer our suggestions for making your special occasion magical.
Enjoy!
Wilma
