My husband and I have just planned a return trip to Disney this coming December. I am also from RI and was wondering what the weather might be like when we are there. We are going Dec 6-14. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Caitlin,

It's always fun to talk to a fellow Rhode Islander! December is one of my favorite times to visit Walt Disney World. I think you'll find that the crowd levels are relatively low, but the parks are in full holiday mode. The decorations and special events really make visiting at this time a special treat.

The weather. I've been a few times, and the one thing that is a bit unpredictable is the weather. We went this past December and it was gorgeous, sunny and 80. We were able to swim and lounge by the pool. Other times we've had rain, and it's been a little chilly. You'll have to check the forecast before you go to make sure you've packed the right clothing. Generally, you can get away with capris or jeans and short sleeved shirts during the day. Make sure you have a warm jacket in the evening. Once the sun goes down it will get chilly enough for a sweatshirt or fleece. Also, it's a good idea to come prepared with rain gear, just in case. Throw some ponchos in your suitcase, and you won't have to worry about it if it does rain. Of course, you can also purchase ponchos at the parks or your resort.

No matter what. The weather is almost always going to be much warmer in Disney than up north.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
