My husband, my mother in law, my 5 children, and I are sailing on a 7 night cruise on the Magic in early January!! We are so excited, but I am a bit nervous about packing for 7! Is it really necessary to bring formal wear?

    Welcome aboard, Breanna!

Your party crew from MS must be excited to enjoy some warm Caribbean weather to jump start the new year. How exciting! 7-nights onboard the majestic Disney Magic with all its pixie dusted glory -- you are in for much fun and relaxation. Packing the outfits for your whole crew seems like a daunting task... but don't worry, you're a mom of 5 -- you've accomplished much bigger tasks for sure! I'm sure you've already started day dreaming about how each and every one of your buccaneers might look like on each day. Are you going for the color coordinated look? Or are you going for the just-look-neat-and-clean look for the pictures? :-)

Your voyage will have 1 optional dress up night (formal night), a semi-formal night and the rest will be cruise casual. But don't forget the Pirate gear! This might just be the perfect photo-op to get your mother in law to dress up with everyone else, and have awesome pictures to show friends and family afterwards. If you choose not to be all glammed up with the bling for formal night - you don't have to. It is optional, and allows families a theme that they can dress for - and take lots of gorgeous pictures. The sophisticated look of the dining rooms sets a nice theme for the evening. Also, the Disney professional photographers will be setting up their Disney Cruise Line signature backgrounds at the lobby atrium in the evenings, and it makes for great souvenir photos. If it is too bulky - then you definitely can consider other types of outfits. I would stick to the clothes that your family would wear if you were to head out to a nice dinner when you are back home. Your kids might enjoy dressing up for the evening too -- the sophisticated and fancy look might be a lot of fun... and that can unfold a snazzy rest of the evening.

Enjoy planning for your trip, Breanna. Let us know if you need additional info that we can help with.
