Hi Sherrie! Welcome to
planDisney! I want to answer this gently and with so much care, because I can absolutely hear the concern behind your question. Planning a Disney trip when someone you love has mobility challenges can feel overwhelming, and you're doing the right thing by asking ahead of time.
Walt Disney World does offer a program called
Disability Access Service, often referred to as DAS. However, the qualifications for that service have changed in recent years. DAS is now primarily designed to support Guests with cognitive disabilities, developmental conditions, or certain mental health needs that make waiting in a traditional queue environment particularly difficult. Each request is evaluated individually by a trained Cast Member, either virtually before your visit or in person at
Guest Relations, and decisions are made case by case.
At this time, mobility limitations and physical disabilities alone generally do not qualify for DAS. In situations involving difficulty standing for extended periods, Disney's standard approach is to recommend the use of a wheelchair or ECV, whether you bring your own or rent one at the park entrance. The majority of queues at Walt Disney World are wheelchair accessible, which allows Guests to wait comfortably without standing.
That said, every Guest's situation is unique. You are absolutely welcome to speak directly with a Cast Member at Guest Relations when you arrive to explain your husband's specific needs. They are the only ones who can review the details of his condition and determine whether any accommodations may be appropriate in your particular case.
Sherrie, I truly hope this helps you prepare with clarity and confidence. With the right planning and the proper mobility support, your husband can still have a wonderful and memorable visit.
Warm hugs,
Ana Paula
