Hi Mihoko, and welcome to planDisney! It sounds like you’re getting ready to enjoy Walt Disney World with a little extra Disney magic on your wrist! MagicBands, and the newer
MagicBand+, both bring an added layer of convenience and fun to your vacation experience. Both allow you to enter the parks, access Lightning Lane entrances, unlock your Disney Resort hotel room, and make purchases, while the MagicBand+ also adds interaction with select attractions and experiences across the parks.
To answer your question, yes, your husband’s MagicBand does contain a non-replaceable internal battery with an estimated lifespan of around two years. While this battery mainly powers features like automatic
Disney PhotoPass uploads, other essential functions like park entry,
Lightning Lane taps, and room entry should continue to work even if the battery has expired. In fact, I’ve personally used MagicBands well beyond the two-year mark without any issues!
If your husband’s MagicBand isn’t functioning as expected, or you don't want to risk the MagicBand not being able to work the way you expect it to, there are plenty of places to pick up a new one or try out a MagicBand+. He can find MagicBands at locations like the
Pin Traders - Camera Center in EPCOT,
Pin Traders at Disney Springs, or in gift shops at any
Disney Resorts Collection hotel. If he upgrades to a MagicBand+, he’ll also enjoy the interactive features and the convenience of a rechargeable battery.
And if your husband does purchase a new MagicBand+, Hakuna Matata, pairing a new MagicBand+ with a Guest’s profile in the
My Disney Experience app is easy! After purchasing, open the app, navigate to the main menu (three horizontal lines), scroll down to “MagicBands & Cards,” and follow the prompts to link the MagicBand+ to his profile. Once linked, his MagicBand+ will be good to go!
Thanks for stopping by, Mihoko! I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions or need tips on planning your trip,
feel free to reach out. See you real soon!
