My husband and I would like to do our gender reveal at MK!! I have read about the restrictions and how others have done it. How can we set up the experience where a cast member puts the right colored balloon in a box and we open it in front of the castle?

Welcome to planDisney, Vanessa! Thank you for coming to us with your Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning questions, and a special thank you for allowing us to help with such an important surprise! Congratulations!

If you want to formalize a gender reveal, I would start by contacting Disney Meetings & Events. They say that if you can dream it, they can plan it! Submit a request to see how they can assist with your planning process, as they specialize in creating unforgettable experiences for you, your family, and your friends. Maybe you can even have your favorite Disney Character assist with your reveal!

For something a little less formal, I have recommended that other Guests incorporate a Mickey or Minnie plush from one of the merchandise locations in the Magic Kingdom into their reveal. You would take a Mickey and Minnie plush to the register with the gender of your new addition in an envelope and ask the Cast Member to ring up the correct one, put it into a box, and reveal it when you are ready. If not a plush, you could choose a prince or princess outfit or Mickey or Minnie ears. The balloons may be a little harder to conceal for the reveal, but if you can devise a plan, there is no harm in asking a Cast Member to assist. In all my encounters over the years, Cast Members love being a part of the magic if the request is reasonable, doesn’t interfere with their job, and doesn’t impact other Guests.

Vanessa, have you considered reserving a Capture Your Moment photo session? This could be the perfect way to capture your reveal with the help of professional Cast Member photographers. Whether you choose the Mickey or Minnie plush, prince or princess outfit, balloon, or even unwrapping something small and simple like a Celebration Button, the photographer can capture all of the emotions leading up to the reveal and the immediate reactions after, all with the Cinderella Castle in the background. How perfect!

Typing this all out has me reflecting on when my wife and I were expecting. While my wife didn’t have any wild cravings, I took the opportunity to blame my sweet tooth on sympathy cravings. And what better excuse is there to book Enchanting Extras such as the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties: Seats & Sweets to give into that craving?

If you have any additional questions about vacation planning, gender reveals, or food and drink options for your upcoming visit, please ask me directly. I would love to share additional Disney World tips, tricks, and dining suggestions with you!

    Congratulations again,
