My husband and I want to experience Aulani while we are in Hawaii this year, but can't afford to stay overnight. Are we able to show up and experience the amenities without a hotel stay? What amenities can we experience? Do we have to buy a pass?

Aloha Callie Grace, and welcome back to planDisney! Aulani is such a magical place, the practically perfect mix of Hawaiian culture and Disney touches. I’m so excited for you to experience it yourself!

Most amenities are limited to overnight guests, like pool access and meeting characters, but day visitors are welcome to walk around many areas of the resort. This includes getting a sweet treat from Little ‘Opihi’s near the beach (you’ll find character-themed Dole Whip and other frozen treats, like my favorite chocolate-dipped bananas!) and visiting the gift shops. There are two right off of the lobby, Kalepa’s Store and Hale Manu. Kalepa’s Store is the largest and has everything from clothes to ornaments. Hale Manu has more upscale items like handbags and artwork. And when you’re in there, don’t forget to look up at the beautiful bird carvings hanging from the ceiling, all showcasing native Hawaiian species! There’s also a smaller store called the Lava Shack by the pool where you’ll find swim essentials, like UV shirts (a must for the strong Hawaiian sun!).

There’s also a public beach between Aulani and the ocean, so you could head there to swim or lounge on the sand. You’ll need to bring your own towels, chairs, and umbrella.

While there isn’t a day pass for the amenities exclusive to overnight guests, there are two reservations that you can make to experience some of the magic! First is a breakfast reservation at Makahiki so you can start the day meeting Mickey and friends while enjoying a delicious meal. They also serve dinner, but my family usually opts for breakfast since that’s the only time the characters are there.

The second is booking a full-service spa treatment at the Laniwai Spa, which gives you access to the amazing Kula Wai outdoor hydrotherapy garden. This relaxing oasis is one of my favorite places. There are shaded lounge chairs, whirlpools, a cold water therapy plunge pool, rain-style showers, and a reflexology path.

As you plan your visit, check out the Aulani Parking page for information on valet and self-parking options. If you're going to one of the table service restaurants or spa, you may qualify for complimentary parking (ask at the restaurant or spa for details).

I’m wishing you a magical time at Aulani! And if you have any other questions, you’re always welcome back at planDisney.
