Hi Julie,
I'm so excited to hear that you are going to experience the
Wild Africa Trek at Animal Kingdom! That ranks among my all-time favorite
behind-the-scenes tours. I love learning more about the animals with an up-close view, enjoying gourmet snacks on the savannah and conquering my trepidation to walk across the swinging bridge above the crocodiles.
When you arrive at
Animal Kingdom, you will see a specially marked entrance for guests who have early-morning dining or tour reservations. It often is to the left of security. The cast members at the special entrance will have a list of all those early reservations. Once they check for your name, you will tap into the park as usual (park admission is required in addition to the tour fee). Then you will make your way past the
Tree of Life to the Africa section of the park.
I recommend arriving at the gate at least 30 to 45 minutes before your trek reservation. You will need time to go through security, the entrance and walk to the Trek check-in area near
Kilimanjaro Safaris. The walk will take about 10 minutes. Before you begin, you will place your personal possessions in a locker and get your safety equipment, headset and an orientation.
You are allowed to take your phone or camera, but it must be tethered to your vest. (Your guides will take awesome pictures of your adventure which you can download at no additional charge.) A water bottle is provided, and you can keep it as a souvenir.
Make sure you dress comfortably and wear closed-toed shoes with a back strap, sneakers or hiking boots. Flip-flops or other loose sandals are not allowed.
Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question, Julie. Please let us know if we can help in any other way. Enjoy this awesome experience!
