Hello, my husband and I are going to Disney for our 20 year anniversary. We like good food, but don't want to go anywhere overly fancy. I am trying to decide between a dinner at California Grill or Flying Fish. We are staying at Caribbean Beach.

    Welcome back to planDisney, Delilah!

Happy anniversary to you both! What a wonderful way to celebrate your 20th anniversary--a visit to The Most Magical Place on Earth!

My family's filled with foodies, too, so I totally get the desire to pick the perfect spot for your special meal. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either California Grill or Flying Fish, so I'll give you some of my favorite aspects of both.

First, let's look at California Grill. This is hands-down one of my go-to restaurants when we want an extra-special experience. The view alone will set the tone for your evening--it's absolutely gorgeous! Just last month, I scheduled our dinner near sunset so that all of the beauty of Seven Seas Lagoon and its surrounding resorts was glowing as we settled into our seats. Currently serving a fixed-price menu, California Grill offers some of my favorite dishes. So good!

What's better than that delicious dinner with a gorgeous view? Fireworks! If dining during Magic Kingdom's Happily Ever After, lights dim and the room takes on a whole new kind of sparkle. In fact, there is an observation deck just outside the restaurant door, offering a spectacular finale to your celebration.

To get to California Grill from your hotel, take Walt Disney World Bus Service to Magic Kingdom, then either follow the path toward Disney's Contemporary Resort--it's an easy ten minute walk--or take the Resort Monorail from Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary.

The other option you've mentioned is an outstanding choice for your celebration, too, Delilah. Because you're staying at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, getting to Flying Fish will be a breeze. Just a few steps from the entrance to your resort, you'll find Disney Skyliner. These lovely gondolas will whisk you away to Disney's BoardWalk area where you'll find Flying Fish. Although this location is famous for its variety of beautifully prepared seafood dishes, non-fish eaters will find many delicious options, too. This Signature Dining experience feels more formal to me, but it is one that you'll remember for years to come.

You'll be wowed by the beauty of the BoardWalk at night, too, and it's the perfect place to linger longer after your delicious meal. Take an after-dinner stroll, people-watch, or perhaps grab a magical after-dinner drink at AbracadaBar. And if you time it right, you'll see the tops of the fireworks display from EPCOT's Luminous The Symphony of Us. For a great view, walk to the right from the restaurant and stand on the bridge over Crescent Lake on your way back to the Skyliner. It's another magical way to cap off your special day.

Delilah, as you continue to pack more pixie dust into your Walt Disney World plans, be sure to keep sending questions our way. We love to help!
