My husband and I will be at Disney with our 3 children ages 14, 5, and 1. Our 5-year-old has a DAS pass but we want to purchase Lightning Lane passes for our 14-yr-old and ride with him using Rider Swap. Would we need 3 LLs to do so or just 1 or 2?

Hey there, Hi there, Ho there, Milada!

Thanks for visiting us at planDisney today, we’re happy to have you! Can you believe later this month you will be at Walt Disney World? I’m so excited for you! Usually, when we are this close to a trip, we will have some sort of countdown going in the background. My little ones love this! It’s their favorite part of the planning process, counting down until we arrive.

Now, to take advantage of Rider Switch, each member of your party will need to have a Lightning Lane reservation that corresponds with the attraction and time you want to ride. A Cast Member at the front of the attraction will validate your qualification to use Rider Switch and then modify the return time for “Party B”. Party B will be the person/ people (maximum of 2)  who will be waiting with the little ones outside of the attraction first, while “Party A” rides. So, your group will need to have a total of 3 Lightning Lane reservations for the attractions that your little ones don’t ride,  to use Rider Swap.

Milada, your party is also able to take advantage of Rider Switch when using the Standby queue too. So if you don’t want to purchase Lightning Lane, this is also a great option. My family will usually do this earlier in the morning or later in the evening when the little ones have fallen asleep in the stroller. Another option to pass the time while waiting is snacks! When my youngest wasn’t quite tall enough to ride, she would get a snack of choice while dad and brother rode. It helped cheer her up, especially during those visits when she was so close to meeting the attraction height requirements. Thankfully this last visit was the visit she finally met almost all of the height requirements. It was so fun being able to reflect on the memories of every trip that happened before she could ride. It was like she truly did grow up at Walt Disney World.

Since you are visiting with little ones, I also recommend taking advantage of the Baby Care Centers. There is one in each park and they come in handy if you’ve left something back home, or if your little one just needs a quiet place to cool down in. The Baby. Care Centers were a well-loved bonus for our family when visiting over the years. I hope you can see the magic of them too!

Milada, I hope this helps answer your question. Please let us know if there’s anything else you need or have questions about before you arrive. Have the most magical visit!

    See ya real soon,

    Shantel

Hi ya Pals! I'm Shantel, an Army wife and mom of two. I grew up going to the parks, and now we're sharing that tradition with our kids. When I am not visiting the Walt Disney World Resort, I'm at home researching and planning for our next trip. One of my favorite things to do is search for new snacks to try, especially if they are Mickey shaped. I'm definitely living the dream my heart wished for! I cannot wait to answer your questions and help make your vacation even more magical!
