My husband is a Dept. of Defense employee. We have been to DW many times, & like to have the Dining Plan. I understand that you must buy a package to get the DP, but how does this work at the Swan? Could we use the DOD discount on a package there &

Hi Alissa!  I did a bit of calling around this afternoon to try to find out if there was any way your family could receive the discounted government employee rate at the Swan and still participate in the dining plan.  Unfortunately, it looks like you won't be able to take advantage of both.  When I called Disney reservations (407-WDW-MAGIC) I was told that because the Swan and Dolphin are not owned by Disney, guests who stay there are not eligible for the dining plan.  I then called the Swan and Dolphin reservation line directly (800-227-1500) and was told that while you could book a room at the discounted government rate, you would not be entitled to purchase the dining plan.  It looks like you'll have to crunch some numbers here and weigh the importance of the dining plan for your family.

Since you've visited WDW a number of times I assume you're familiar with the Shades of Green and the economical rates your husband may be eligible for there.  If not, you may want to check into it at www.shadesofgreen.org.  You'll run into the same rule there though; Shades of Green guests are not eligible to purchase the dining plan either.

I'm sorry I couldn't deliver the news you wanted to hear.  : (   I'm sure you'll have a great vacation nonetheless.
