My husband is deploying this month and when he returns in August 2010 I really want to surprise him with a disney trip since niether of us has ever been. We want to stay in the french quarter. How much money should I plan on saving up for the trip.

Hi Katherine - what a  wonderful idea!  As you probably know, you an not officially book a trip for Augusts 2010 at this time.  Typically, you can do so 499 days in advance.

What I would do is price out a regularly priced vacation package at Port Orleans French Quarter for August 2009 - just to give you a general ballpark figure.  And I hope you can consider this your worse case scenario.  Then, start saving!  You'll want to keep an eye out for specials once 2010 arrives.  My favorite places to watch for specials are the special offers page on disneyworld.com or mousesavers.com.  In fact, you may want to sign up for the mousesavers e-newsletters so you can receive alerts about discounts.

And finally, Disney is offering discounts to the military in 2009.  I'm not sure if it will continue in 2010 but you may want to keep an eye on disneyworld.com/military.

I hope this helps.  I thank your husband for serving our country.  Diane  :)
