My husband, daughter and I are thinking of staying at Campsites at Disney's Fort WIlderness. Do you know if you can have a campfire there to cook on? Or, do you have to cook on the grill and only the grill?

    Hi Mary,

My family and I absolutely love Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. All campsites and cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort come with a charcoal grill on which you can cook. You can purchase charcoal at the Settlement Depot. Charcoal must be used only in the grill, and only charcoal may be used in the grill (so you can't use the charcoal on the ground, and you can't use wood in the grill).

You cannot have any type of ground fire at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. You can bring your own campfire pit; however, there are strict regulations in place as to the type of campfire pit you can bring. It must have a solid metal bottom and a solid metal top. There can be no flames or embers that escape - so no campfire pit with a mesh top is allowed. If you go to disboards.com and search for the thread titled, "Disney approved fire pits," you will be able to see examples of the types of campfire pits that Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort does and does not allow.

I spoke with a very helpful cast member who suggested that before you bring any campfire pit, please call Disney's Fort Wilderness directly at 407-824-3200 so that you can directly discuss your specific fire questions with them. Also please bear in mind that if there is any burn ban in Florida, which there often is, you will not be allowed to have a fire.

For a campfire experience, try Chip N Dale's Campfire Sing-a-long. Check the information you receive upon check-in for the time of this recreation option at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. They have a fun campfire where you can roast marshmallows and make s'mores. Chip N Dale sing, and there is a movie under the stars. My family and I went to this on our last stay at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. My brother came along, so my daughter got to roast marshmallows and see The Muppets under the stars with her uncle. It was truly magical.

Please do not hesitate to ask any further questions that you may have!
