We (me, my husband, our daughter, and my parents) will be camping at Fort Wilderness during the week of Thanksgiving. Has anyone ever camped there during this time of year? How is the weather? What are the MUSTS at the resort? How is MK this time of year?

Hi Heather! Your plans sound like a great Thanksgiving vacation for your family. In fact it might even work out that you see some of the wonderful families of turkey that live right in that resort which will make it even more special.

We have spent a lot of time in Fort Wilderness and also during that time of year which is one of my favorite times. The weather is variable but the average temperatures range from 59-79 degrees. I have always found that the early mornings and the evenings tend to be cool so if you head out during the day make sure you take a wrap for later if you come back after dark. My family never heeded our own advice and we could have started our own Disney sweatshirt store with all that we had to buy to keep warm! Generally you do not have to worry much about rain as it is typically one of the least amount of rainfall months but again Mother Nature can do what she pleases and surprises us at times.

Fort Wilderness is wonderful and you will find it a very nice peaceful retreat after busy days in the parks. I strongly suggest Hoop Dee Doo Revue dining experience as well as Mickey's Backyard Barbecue which are both located right there. Trails End is a super hidden dining treat with great buffets at breakfast and dinner if you choose not to cook yourself.  Chip and Dales Campfire Singalong is fun and held every night with live entertainment and visits from Chip and Dale of course. It is followed by a Disney movie under the stars.  You might also want to try out archery, canoeing, fishing and don't forget to visit the Disney stables.

The parks will be busy that week especially the day before and the two days after the holiday. But it is still one of my favorite times since the Christmas holidays begin that weekend and that is very exciting. Take advantage of the Fast Passes and extra magic hours and get dining reservations ahead.  I would be glad to help you with any other questions for Fort Wilderness!
