My husband is currently in Iraq, and I want to book a memorable vacation for my son and I. Do you have any suggestions and tips?

Hey, Tamara! First of all, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the commitment your husband has made to our country and for the sacrifice you are making as a family for our benefit.  My brother just got back from Iraq, and I think I might understand the anticipation and anxiety you may be feeling. In fact, I can't help but tear up remembering how we felt a few months ago as we anticipated Al's return!

Currently, there are several opportunities at WDW available for your family. Many are outlined in the Shades of Green site and are also available at your post's Leisure Travel Office.  As you may know, SoG usually has a waiting list, but there are offers you can take even if you're not staying there. Look into the 2010 WDW Armed Forces Salute tickets where a member of the military can get himself/herself and up to 5 family members or friends a 4-day ticket for $99 per ticket.  (There are blackout dates and an expiration -- make sure you are certain of your plans before purchasing.)

Contact the Dream Makers at Disney Floral & Gifts and have something waiting in your room to surprise your husband and son. Also, almost everyday around 5 p.m. at the Magic Kingdom, there is a flag retreat ceremony, and a veteran is asked to participate.  It is truly a memorable and moving event. After you've made your reservations, contact the concierge at your resort or notify them when you arrive of your husband's service.

Lastly, as an armed services family, you are made out of a very precious metal worth far more than any medal we could hang from your necks. Thank you, again, for making our country strong and proud, and I will certainly be praying for his safe return and seamless transition back home.  Have a wonderful day and a most magical vacation!
