My husband and I are considering a trip for our 18th anniversary, we were thinking October? We wanted to work around lower crowds, weather, and also noticed food and wine festival will be going on, how would this affect the park crowd and staying contempo?

    Hi, Beth!

    Happy Anniversary!

What a wonderful idea! Celebrating your 18th anniversary with a trip to Walt Disney World in October will be just beautiful. I was just at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival this past October and the weather was simply perfect. You're going to love it!

According to weather.com, the average high in Orlando in October is 84, the average low is 66. This brought us nice, warm days (not too hot) and just perfect evenings. Swimming is great, too, especially because all of the resort pools are heated.

According to touringplans.com, an unofficial crowd-predicting site, the average crowd level throughout the month of October will be anywhere from 1 out of 10 to 7 out of 10; that's including the added draw to the F & W Festival. You will most likely notice a higher crowd level on a weekend day at Epcot than you would normally see on a typical, non-peak day. However, Epcot is such a large park that even that you may not even notice it, especially if you're used to summer or holiday crowds.

Because you'll be staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort, you won't be in the thick of the Food & Wine crowds, either, but will have the convenience of hopping onto the monorail should you wish to transfer to the connecting Epcot line at the Transportation / Ticketing Center. This is another great feature of staying at any of the three resorts which are located along the monorail beam.

Beth, get ready to have a spectacular visit during the Food & Wine Festival! There is so much to sample, so be sure to allocate at least two days for touring Epcot. Be sure to send any additional questions as you think of them, too. I love to help!
