My husband and I are coming on October of this year. We recently adopted 2 children who love Disney but have disabilities. My son (9) has injury induced Cerebral Palsy and my daughter (6) has severe ADHD and ODD. Would a DAS pass be right for them?

    Hi Amanda,

Welcome to planDisney! I’m so excited to hear you are planning a magical and unforgettable visit to the Walt Disney World Resort with your beautiful and growing family! You’ve also chosen such a spooktacular time to be there! October at the Walt Disney World Resort is such a fun time to visit. The fall décor with all the pumpkins lining Main Street, U.S.A., the Halloween fun like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and that little hint of cooler air in the evenings? I just know it will be the best time ever!

When it comes to Disability Access Service (DAS), the very best thing to know is that eligibility is determined directly by Disney after a conversation with a Cast Member. It’s not something we can pre-approve or predict ahead of time, but the process itself is very straightforward and designed to be supportive.

You can register for DAS up to 30 days before your arrival through a live video chat. Just log into your My Disney Experience account and visit the DAS page on the official Walt Disney World website to start the process. Since you’re requesting it for both your kiddos, they will need to be present for that video call. During the conversation, a Cast Member will discuss your family’s specific needs as they relate to waiting in a traditional queue and determine whether DAS is the right fit.

If you get approved, DAS allows you to request a return time for attractions based on the current standby wait. That way instead of standing in the regular queue, you’ll be able to enjoy other areas of the park until it’s time to return. It can be such a helpful tool for families who need that flexibility.

A few little planning tips from one Disney-loving mama to another who has had to utilize DAS for my own mouseketeers:

Make sure your whole travel party is linked together in My Disney Experience before your DAS call. It makes everything smoother if DAS is approved.

Build in breathing room. Even with the best plans, park days are big days. Scheduling sit-down (table-service) meals, resort breaks, or even just intentional snack-and-sit moments can make a world of difference!

And don’t underestimate the power of asking for support! Cast Members are truly incredible at helping families navigate unique situations with kindness and creativity, and sometimes they can suggest extra magic you might have missed or not thought of, making your days smoother and extra magical.

Amanda, you’re already doing the most important thing: planning ahead! I hope your October visit is full of laughter, first attractions together, and those sweet “this is our family story now” moments. Be sure to capture all those moments so you can cherish them for yEARS to come!

If you want help sprinkling in Lightning Lane strategy, low-key reset spots, or October must-dos, I’m all ears and ready to sprinkle some extra pixie dust your way. So please do come back and see us!

    Pixie dust away!
