My husband is celiac and cannot drink beer. Can we bring hard cider on the cruise ship instead of beer? From what I'm reading, the answer is no, but I was hoping they would make an exception for an allergy.

    Hello, Jennifer!

Welcome to planDisney! I can’t believe your Disney Cruise is just a couple of weeks away. You must be getting so excited. Have you started packing yet? I like to make my packing list early to make sure I have everything I need…and it gives me the perfect excuse to shop for a cute outfit or accessory if I’m missing something!

We also have food allergies in our family, so I completely understand needing to plan ahead. As you may be aware, Guests 21 and older can bring a small amount of alcohol on board, up to two unopened bottles of wine or champagne (750 ml or smaller) or six beers (12 ounces or smaller). They just need to be packed in your carry-on bags.

In my experience, ciders aren’t considered beer and usually can’t be brought onboard. I know that’s a bummer! With that in mind, I typically call Disney Cruise Line a few weeks before we sail to review our dietary needs and verify that allergy‑friendly options will be available. In the past, I’ve even been able to request specific items, like certain donuts or butter. They can’t guarantee anything, but they really do try their best! If you call, you can also ask about bringing cider, just in case there’s any flexibility for your family's situation.

If that doesn’t work out, maybe he’d like to bring wine instead. And the good news is that I’ve seen hard ciders available for purchase on several of my cruises, so I’m hopeful he’ll find something he likes once you’re on the ship.

Since your husband avoids gluten, I recommend submitting the Special Services Form as soon as possible so the crew is aware of his needs. Disney Cruise Line handles food carefully and works hard to avoid cross‑contact, but they don’t have separate allergy‑friendly kitchens, so they can’t guarantee anything is completely allergen‑free. That said, my family has safely sailed many times and already has another cruise planned for next year. Just make sure to also remind your dining team about all allergies during your meals.

Jennifer, I hope you have a wonderful cruise! Stop by planDisney again if you have other questions.

    Happy sailing!
