My husband and I are bringing our 6 kids for the first Disney trip. We are wanting to stay at Fort Wilderness, the only place big enough and in our budget. What are the must do things for us? Kids are 2, 3, 9, 14, 14 and 15. 2,9,15 are girls.

Hi Melissa!  I am sure you will love the Fort Wilderness Resort as much as my family does. We have a nice motor coach we enjoy bringing and the kids love the cabins.

I am not sure if you are needing to know more about the resort and the must do's or in general so I will concentrate on the resort and you can ask again for the general ideas since we don't have space for both in one answer.

Fort Wilderness is the largest resort on property between all of the RV and camping loops and the cabin loops. There are side walks that link the entire area so you can enjoy walks or jogs daily. The internal bus system will take you from the front to the lake and anywhere in between and the wait times are minimum.

There are two pools with one located at the cabins and the other behind the trading post. Enjoy pool games and lawn games led by cast members each day or stop in at the Bike Barn next door and rent bikes, canoes, or fishing gear. There are archery lessons several times a week as well as Segway tours for the adults. Definitely take advantage of the Chip and Dale's Campfire Singalong each night next to the Bike Barn. Here you will enjoy a complimentary live show featuring Chip and Dale while you roast marshmallows over the campfires. It is followed by a Disney movie that is different each night.

If your budget allows reserve the Hoop Dee Doo Revue for dinner one night or the Mickey's Backyard Barbecue. For other meals reserve breakfast and dinner at the Trail's End restaurant for great buffets. You will find the boats to the Magic Kingdom and Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge just steps from there making those locations easy to access. And don't forget to visit the Disney stables and Cinderella's ponies where the younger ones can enjoy a quick pony ride. Older kids can take the trail rides at the front of the resort.

Make sure you keep your eyes open to watch for the many deer and turkeys that call this home as well!
