My husband and I have booked Animal Kingdom Lodge: Kidani Village in June of 2011. This is not a special trip, but we stiil have not told our children. We want to tell them in a very fun way and cannot figure out how to do it. Can you all help us?

    Jessica:

We announced our trip to Disney at Christmas a few years ago, but Animal Kingdom and its stable of wild animals provides the backdrop to so many ideas.
    • Have a "safari hunt:"  Leave a trail of animal crackers from room to room, giving hints of where the trip will be. If animal crackers give you visions of sugarcrumbs, consider using a barrel of monkeys.
    • Wrap up Mickey: On a piece of construction paper, write the message you want to share with the family. Cut it up into pieces, similar to those that would look like a puzzle. Blow up enough "Mickey Ear" balloons (I found some on Amazon.com, two for $3.50) for everyone you want to surprise and insert different pieces of the "puzzle" into the balloons. Attach a note to each balloon that says, "POP ME!"  Wrap the balloons up in a box using animal print wrapping paper. When the box is opened, the balloons will rise out.  What excitement for the children to actually get to pop a balloon! Then, they can put together the pieces of the puzzle announcing the trip!
    • At the breakfast table, place a plastic Safari hat at each child's place. Under the hat, tuck a "survival" kit with tic tacs (labeled 'jungle fever antidote'), a fake passport with a picture of each child in it and other fun information like their height, etc., and an inflatable towel (you know the ones that "grow" when placed in water, preferably a Disney-themed one). Announce that they need one more thing for their Safari: binoculars. You can buy some plastic ones or make your own out of two toilet tissue rolls and string. On tissue paper write the words "We're Going To Disney World" and tape them at the ends of the rolls.
Let us know how the "reveal goes!"

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
