Hi! Hubby & I coming 9/20-9/26 for 20th anniv. We ususally stay at Pop w/ kids but travel agent suggested POR. The only room avail is Royal rm. Thoughts on this? Should we look @ other resorts? POFQ? What are the buses like? We are used to Pop's direct

    Hi Katherine,

Like yours, my family often stays at Pop Century when we visit Walt Disney World. We, too, like that the resort has a single bus stop and that it doesn't share buses with other resorts.

My husband and I just got back from a weekend without our girls at Port Orleans Riverside. We had a room in the Acadian House building in the Magnolia Bend section with a king-sized bed. The room was large and luxurious. It also was convenient to the bus stops, the pools and the main building with the dining and shopping.

I have seen the Royal Rooms. They are beautiful but I'm not sure I'd spend the extra money for the theming if I wasn't traveling with a princess-loving child.

For our anniversary trips, we often have stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter, and that's what I would recommend. That resort is small and intimate and has a more romantic, adult feel than most of the other moderate or value resorts.  French Quarter has a food court and a lounge, but it is within easy walking distance of the more extensive dining and lounge options at Riverside.

In the past when we have stayed at the Port Orleans resorts, the two have shared buses. This weekend, the bus made several stops within the Riverside resort but did not go to the French Quarter. I believe the two sister resorts may share buses during less busy times of the year.

Even with the bus making two or three stops within the resort, the travel time seemed short, largely because the Port Orleans resorts are closer to Epcot and Magic Kingdom (the parks we visited this weekend) than Pop Century. Another advantage of the resorts is the boat service to Downtown Disney.

I hope that helps you make your decision. I think either Port Orleans resort is a terrific spot for a celebration getaway, but French Quarter is my favorite.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. Happy anniversary!
