I am hoping to visit WDW for the first time in January 2021. I've noticed that the entire week I plan on staying there the hours for the Magic Kingdom say it closes at 6pm; does that mean there won't be fireworks?

Hello Kristin! Welcome to planDisney! A visit to Mickey and Minnie's Florida home in January sounds like a great winter getaway! I am excited that you are going to have your first-ever Walt Disney World Resort vacation! A world of magical experiences awaits you!

Looking at the Disney Parks calendar for January 2021, it does appear that Magic Kingdom Park will be coming off of their holiday hours in early January. The park is currently scheduled to close at 6:00PM for many days in January. I use the word "currently" purposefully as hours for the Disney Parks are always subject to change. I encourage you to continue to check the parks calendar for updates to operating hours.

Since you mentioned Magic Kingdom Park, be sure to visit Mickey's PhilharMagic! This is my "must do" show at that park. I truly feel like a kid again when I see Donald Duck get sucked into the worlds of some of my favorite Disney characters and films! From Peter Pan and Fantasia to The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King, Donald takes you on an unexpected adventure covering years of treasured Disney animation!

Upon reopening in July, the Disney Parks suspended all use of fireworks shows in the parks. This has helped to maintain physical distancing and avoid large gatherings of crowds. While we all miss the beautiful aerial displays of color, we are hopeful that they will return in the future!

Kristin, while the parks will be closing in the early evening, I want to encourage you to visit Disney Springs for a fun night out! This is the large shopping district at the Walt Disney World Resort. There is bus transportation provided from Disney Resort Hotels to Disney Springs. There is also bus transportation provided from the four Disney Parks to Disney Springs beginning each day at 4:30PM. Not only can you experience great shopping, but the food and nightlife are a perfect way to spend an evening during your vacation!

I am so excited for your upcoming visit! It will be here before you know it! Please come on back to planDisney if you have more questions between now and your first-ever visit!
