We're hoping to visit Disneyworld in 2014. We will have an 11 year old and almost 2 year old (both girls) so we'd like to come when our oldest is out of school-end of May-mid August. What is the best time within that frame in regards to crowds and weather?

    Hi, Tara!

    Great question!

The time period you mention really varies in crowd level and weather (we've seen just about all of those weeks) so it's best to plan accordingly, since you have the ability to do so.

First, I like to consult touringplans.com, a great, unofficial WDW crowd-predicting website, to see what the predicted crowd levels should be during any potential stay. In mid- to late-May 2014, average park crowd levels start at 3 out of 10 and rise to 8 out of 10 by some of the days near the month's end (Memorial Day Weekend is the cause of the highest number.) June averages are generally 6-9 out of 10, with an occasional 4 or 5 here and there. July is typically 5-8 (9 for 4th of July) and August is 5-8 until mid-month.

Keep in mind that many school districts across the country remain in session until mid-June, so you'll find lighter crowds prior to that. Add the fact that, according to Weather.com, average May temps range from 65 to 89, whereas June temps are 71-91 and that July and August temps average 73-92, and you'll see that the more temperate time to visit is May. In addition, the May average rainfall is only 3.1 inches and the other two months come in at 7-8.

If I were in your position, Tara, I would book a trip to Walt Disney World at the end of May / early June. You'll be pleased, most likely, with the crowd levels, the temperature and the amount of rain during that time period. Of course, seasons vary from year to year, but I'd go with May / June since you have the choice.

Happy planning, Tara! Send more questions as you think of them, too; we love to help!
