Hi ya Kathleen!
Thanks for stopping by and visiting us here at planDisney. You’ve come to the right spot!
There’s plenty of walking involved when visiting
Walt Disney World Resort. I especially like to “play it safe” and highly recommend
renting an ECV for your entire visit. My husband and I actually both really enjoy tracking our steps and miles walked each time we visit. On average, we find that when we spend the entire day at the parks (from opening to closing time) we average a minimum of 8 miles a day.
My oldest Mouseketeer has an adaptive stroller that he uses for long distance traveling and longer periods of time. We do not enjoy the parks without it! He can manage about 1 to 2 miles on his own, before he needs a break. Since there is a lot of walking involved, we just always bring it along. We also find that keeping up with his pace helps conserve his strength. Take a snack break or sit down and rest awhile when you need to. Main Street, U.S.A., is filled with plenty of Disney Magic, you won’t feel like you’re missing out.
Kathleen, something else to consider is the amount of days you will be visiting for. Will you be exploring all 4 parks? If so, even if you don’t visit the parks from open to close, you will be enjoying a new park the next day, so there’s going to be more steps to be taken. You are able to schedule a rental for the length of your stay using
Disney’s Featured Provider, Scooterbug. They have ECVs and wheelchairs available to pre-order and rent that can be delivered to your
Disney Resort hotel, subject to availability.
I hope this helps you decide what is best for you when you visit, Kathleen. If you find that you have any more questions as you continue to plan,
you know where to find us!
See ya real soon!
