we hope to be there dec 31.... we do NOT need to purchase any special tickets to stay in park til closing? what should we expect besides huge crowd? are there parades? fireworks?

    Hi Diane,

New Year's Eve at Walt Disney World Resort is an experience like no other! You will LOVE hEARing that familiar countdown and celebratory announcement, "…. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year!" knowing that your family is ringing in a New Year at the place where The Magic is Endless!

You will most certainly be able to remain inside any Disney theme park until closing with the purchase of regular admission Tickets. That being said, there are Three New Year's Eve Celebrations at Disney's Contemporary Resort requiring additional purchase.

We don't yet have the schedule of all the programming for New Year's Eve activities, parades and special fireworks inside the theme parks. In the past, there have been dazzling New Year's Eve firework displays. Magic Kingdom Park typically delivers the 360 degrees fireworks extravaganza Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks Spectacular. Epcot usually shows an extended version of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth with a countdown and special pyrotechnics. Disney's Hollywood Studios will likely deliver Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! and then Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular just after midnight.

Since you are planning to visit a Disney theme park on New Year's Eve, I would suggest arriving early and staying until closing time. Parks tend to fill-up quickly on New Year's Eve and once they reach capacity no further admittance is allowed. I also recommend visiting Epcot. This theme park rarely closes due to capacity, as it easily absorbs greater numbers of Guests.
