Ahoy Julie!
Sounds like you are singing Ariel's song: "Look at this stuff, isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?" An assortment of lanyards from previous Disney cruises can seem like whosits and whatsits galore, right? I admire your desire to recycle or repurpose your lanyards-it's truly a noble cause to want to better our world through conservation and environmental efforts. Bravo!
As you know, lanyards are totally an added perk of having cruised on the high seas with Captain Mickey before and a great way to keep up with your Key to the World card. However, Disney Cruise Line does not currently reuse lanyards or collect them when Guests disembark. So my advice to you is this: be like Sebastian and lead your family band by bringing your "gently used" lanyards along on your next cruise. You can ask in the Cruise Terminal at Check-In if they want you to use new ones or recycle the older ones.
Just remember that your lanyard will change when you move up in your
Castaway Club level. Guests are usually thrilled to receive those new lanyards indicating a
change in their sailing status. I'm totally eyeing that platinum one, but I still have a couple voyages to go!
Don't feel like Ursula has stolen your voice on this important issue: Disney Cruise Line takes its
environment programs very seriously. Last I checked, recycling efforts have totaled over 6,400 TONS of metals, glass, plastic and paper. You've probably noticed reductions in plastic waste with the elimination of plastic straws, cutlery, stirrers, shopping bags and condiment packets. Even Flotsam and Jetsam would have to agree this is an excellent idea for our planet and especially for our "under the sea" friends!
Hoist the main sail and chart a course to the Disney Parks Moms Panel as you plan your adventures at sea. We are honored to be "part of your world" when it comes to Disney Cruise Line planning!
Happy Sailing!
