HIYA! I am leaving my 4YO on board for 1/2 of the Castaway Cay day to take the older kids snorkeling. Deciding between Catamaran and Rigid Hull excursions. Which offers views of the most vibrant reef?

    Ahoy, Candace!

You're getting ready for an awesome vacation and I can't wait to have you and your kids enjoy Castaway Cay! It's one of my most favorite island destinations for my family -- and you guys will have a splashtacular time for sure!

We enjoyed the Rigid Hull Excursion on Castaway Cay just over a month ago. My tween and teen raved about this excursion - they actually enjoyed this much more than parasailing. We set off in a smaller boat and there were only 8 of us on the port adventure. The Catamaran adventure was a much bigger group. The sea was a bit choppy at our first site, so we cruised to an alternate location which was much calmer. There was still a bit of current in the water, so it felt tiring. Our guides had a line and buoy in the water for us, just in case we got tired or lazy - and we did :-). All of us ended up holding on to the line, and the boat pulled us very slowly... slow enough for us to admire the coral reef and the different kinds of fish under the water. I loved it - it was a great way to 'tour' the waters without having to exert much effort. All I had to do was hang on to the line and enjoy my [very laid back] snorkeling tour.

After snorkeling, we were whisked away on an exhilarating ride to a beautiful sand bar nearby. We've never been on a sand bar -- and it was the most fascinating natural wonder for me. My kids literally jumped off the boat and ran to the edges of the sand bar -- they were so stoked to be running in the middle of the ocean! They discovered sand dollars and they started hunting around for more -- we had spectacular pictures, with the Disney Cruise ship in the background. The water and the weather were perfect, and the guides even had snacks & drinks for us.

Check it out, Candace - no matter which one you choose, you're bound to have an awesome water adventure. ~ Dolly
