Hiya! First ever trip coming up June 4th-9th, but I just noticed the Matterhorn is closing on May 4th for refurb. Does anyone have an inkling of how long of a closure it would be? I'd be devastated if it didn't at least reopen during my visit.

Hello Diego, and welcome to planDisney. Golly, it's exciting that you’re making your very first visit to the Disneyland Resort, especially during the 70th Anniversary Celebration! You’re in for a magical experience.

I understand why Matterhorn Bobsleds is on your list – it's an iconic Disneyland attraction that promises high thrills and sightings of the Abominable Snowman. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, the attraction is undergoing a refurbishment starting in early May 2025, and a completion date has not yet been announced. I looked at the Hours & Events Calendar and, unfortunately, the Matterhorn is still listed as under refurbishment for the dates of your visit. On the calendar, select the one-day view and scroll down to the "Closed for Refurbishment" section to see which attractions will be unavailable.

The good news is that there's still a lot to enjoy, Diego! Indiana Jones Adventure has just completed a refurbishment, and "it's a small world" is expected to reopen by mid-May. Add those to your list! You can also experience attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion to see how they differ from the Walt Disney World versions. And did you know you can follow a winding passageway up Sleeping Beauty Castle and see dioramas from the classic film?

Diego, as a first-time visitor, you’ll also love how often Disney Characters appear throughout the park. Use the Disneyland mobile app to see who’s greeting Guests and where! The app is also helpful for viewing wait times, ordering food, and more.

You won't want to miss the special entertainment that is coming to Disneyland for the 70th Anniversary Celebration. I'm most excited for the Paint the Night parade and Wondrous Journeys. There will even be a special cavalcade featuring Duffy! There's an interactive Key to Disneyland experience, too – you'd purchase a key and locate the lock station in each land to activate lighting effects and music. And once you visit each station, you can unlock a special surprise inside the key itself! I'm excited to do this for sure. Pro tip: Grab a churro and try the churro toffee during your visit – they're local favorites!

If you’re visiting California Adventure too, you're in for a treat. From Avengers Campus to Cars Land and Pixar Pier, there’s so much to explore. Brave the swinging gondolas on Pixar Pal-A-Round and the Incredicoaster if you’re up for a thrill!

Diego, while I’m sorry Matterhorn Bobsleds won’t be available, I’m sure the rest of your Disneyland Resort adventure will be unforgettable. If you have any other questions ahead of your trip, please reach out. We're always happy to help here at planDisney!
