Hi Mark! Your countdown to your great May Disney trip is getting very close now and your family must be over the top excited.
May is a month that is starting to welcome the summer temperatures. It will be sunny with average highs around 87 degrees. Average rainfall is just over 3 inches and the afternoon summer showers and rains likely will be starting their journey over central Florida.
Walt Disney World is a casual resort so you will only need casual clothes. Your nicer casual outfits can be saved for some of the table service dining you might enjoy at the resorts. Park restaurants will remain park casual at all times. You can either pack some rain coats for everyone or buy the ponchos in the parks. They do offer children's size. If you are bringing a stroller you might consider purchasing a stroller rainproof cover and bring that to keep everything dry. In the past I have used one or two of the ponchos and made my own cover.
Because of the heat consider having at least a change of tops for the kids during the day. They will want to shower or swim and putting on sweaty clothes again isn't fun for anyone. During the warmer months I will always pack for two outfits per day. And definitely don't forget the swim suits, hats, and sun screen so you can enjoy the Florida sun without getting burned.
The last big advice for clothing is shoes. Make sure everyone is bringing only very comfortable shoes and at least two pair. Sneakers are great support but if they get wet you will not want to put them back on right away. And bring an empty large plastic bag to put wet things in for packing for home.
