Hi we are trying to decide between moderate & value resort. We have read that staying at a moderate resort is not convenient for catching bus/train to any of the parks and that renting a car is better, can you describe the distance from resort to the

    Hi Andrea,

A lot of people simply don't realize the size of Walt Disney World.  It's HUGE -- city size huge.  Walking from one park to another is simply not an option, so just like in a city, guests need to rely on public transportation.  If you think of it in that perspective, then the buses are a super convenient way to get from point A to point B.  Disney does a great job moving guests around efficiently.

The deluxe resorts are always going to be the most convenient.  They're often located within walking distance to at least one park, or they're just a short monorail ride away.  However, buses are still needed to get to other parks -- it's just part of being in Disney.

The typical bus ride to a given park from a resort is usually about 20 minutes from the time you step on the bus until the time you arrive at your destination.  You then have to factor in time spent waiting for your bus.  They usually come every 15-20 minutes.  I have a knack for arriving at the bus stop just as the bus I want is pulling away, so I usually have to wait the full 15 minutes.  I recommend allotting at least 45 minutes for travel time from your resort.

Although the bus isn't my favorite mode of transportation, we never rent a car.  Moderate resorts usually have multiple stops, and there is likely to be one conveniently located near your room.  You can even request that when making your reservation if you like.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
