Hi, Tim! Thanks for stopping by planDisney!
I'm so glad you are looking into purchasing one of the new
Magic Key Passes! If you have a non-promotional, non-expired theme park ticket, you may apply the cost of that ticket toward one of the new Magic Key Passes. If you have the promotional California Resident Tickets, they are
not eligible to be upgraded to the new pass. When the new Magic Key Passes are available to purchase beginning on August 25th, you will be able to upgrade your existing tickets to a new pass on the Disneyland app.
You can also wait to upgrade your tickets until the day of last use. For instance, if you have regular 3-day tickets for your September vacation, you can upgrade your tickets to a Magic Key Pass before the parks close on that third day. Just keep in mind that the activation or anniversary date of your Magic Key Pass will be retroactive to the first day of the ticket you upgraded if you go this route. This will also allow you to keep your current
theme park reservations. With the new Magic Key program, you will use a separate theme park reservation calendar to make reservations. So if you upgrade before your visit, you will need to make new theme park reservations using your new Magic Key Pass.
I hope this helps! Have a magical day!
